Nicky Hayden was the fastest man as free practice got underway at Motorland Aragón on Friday morning, with only nine riders completing a flying lap. The American posted a time 2:04.890 to finish almost a full second clear at the top of the timesheets.
Hayden's departing team-mate, Valentino Rossi, ensured that the factory Ducati squad locked out the top two positions with his personal best effort, while Aleix Espargaró finished third quickest on his CRT machine. Danilo Petrucci was next up in fourth place, while Héctor Barberá and David Slalom completed the top six riders.
Colin Edwards, Yonni Hernández and Karel Abraham were the final three men to set a time, while Dani Pedrosa ventured out for three exploratory laps.
