The Motegi Twin Ring has retained its title as home of the Japanese Grand Prix until at least 2018, having signed a new deal with MotoGP commercial rights holder Dorna Sports. The contract was confirmed by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.
“It is our pleasure that the long-lasting presence of our Grand Prix at Twin Ring Motegi is now secured for another five years,” Ezpeleta comments. “Japan is where the prominent manufactures of MotoGP, such as Honda and Yamaha, are based and the Grand Prix at Motegi is one of the most important events in the championship.
“We are committed to working closely with Twin Ring Motegi as MotoGP faces the time of innovative changes.”
For Sunday’s race, Jorge Lorenzo will start on pole position for Yamaha alongside Honda title rival Dani Pedrosa and the Tech 3 Yamaha of Cal Crutchlow.
