Sepang to unveil Simoncelli memorial plaque
16 October 2012 – A plaque in memory of Marco Simoncelli will be revealed at Sepang on Thursday, according to the AFP news agency. The Italian lost his life at the Malaysian circuit during last year’s MotoGP race and the sport is now returning to the track.
The gold sign will be placed at Turn 11, where the Gresini rider was struck by Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards after falling from his own bike. He succumbed to his injuries in the circuit medical centre despite the best efforts of the MotoGP medical team.
At the end of the 2012 season, the rider voted best newcomer will receive the Marco Simoncelli Rookie of the Year Award, also established in his memory.
