Heavy rain ensured that MotoGP's front runners remained in their pit garages during second practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The top four riders in the championship standings opted not to complete any laps, with CRT competitor Iván Silva making the most of the track time available to lead the way courtesy of his 2:10.602 effort.
Of those who ventured out on-track, only three riders put their lap counts into double figures, with pace-setter Silva one of those men. Behind the Spaniard, Michele Pirro and Randy de Puniet lapped within 3 thousandths of each other, while Roberto Rolfo, Karel Abraham and Motegi podium finisher Álvaro Bautista completed the top six.
Valentino Rossi was next up in seventh place, just ahead of Aleix Espargaro and Ducati team-mate Nicky Hayden, with Britain's James Ellison rounding out the top ten.
Saturday's third and final practice session begins at 10.10 local time (GMT +7)
