McLaren subs for injured Hernández in Australia

25 October 2012

Avintia Blusens have drafted Kris McLaren into the team for this weekend’s Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island, as regular rider Yonny Hernández is injured.

Hailing from Australia, 25-year-old McLaren has competed in this year’s CEV Buckler Spanish championship – also run by commercial rights holder Dorna Sports. In 2011, he took part in the Phillip Island Moto2 race as a wildcard rider.

“I am excited to participate in MotoGP for the first time - and to do so in my country,” McLaren says. “It's a great opportunity and I want to use it well, although I know it will be very difficult to be at the level of such experienced riders. The first objective is to adapt to the bike and progress slowly.”

Hernández hopes to return for the Valencia season finale in a fortnight’s time.
