Phillip Island gets 1.9 million pound upgrade

12 December 2012

The tarmac at Phillip Island has been completely replaced for the first time in 14 years, with circuit officials organising an upgrade worth almost 2 million pounds.

The 4.445 km (2.762 mi) circuit was resurfaced in two days, following the removal of 40mm of tarmac one week before. Double World Champion Casey Stoner aided the consultation process, informing workers of which bumps to remove and retain.

In addition to the fresh layer of tarmac, new asphalt run-off zones have been added at Doohan Corner and Turn 4. Kerbs were also replaced and drainage improved.
