Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo moved ahead of Repsol Honda rival Dani Pedrosa on the second day of the penultimate pre-season test at Sepang. The reigning World Champion clocked a 2:00.282 in the morning session to lead his fellow Spaniard by a margin of 0.369 seconds, while Tech 3 rider Cal Crutchlow completed the top three.
Typically humid conditions made for another challenging day on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, but the rain crucially held off to allow for uninterrupted running. Lorenzo took advantage early on with a succession of quick runs, ultimately producing a personal best effort within two tenths of Pedrosa's pace-setting time from the opening test.
Marc Márquez was best of the rest on his Repsol Honda machine, placing just ahead of seven-time Champion Valentino Rossi, Álvaro Bautista and Stefan Bradl. The factory Ducati's of Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso were some 1.5 seconds off the pace in eighth and ninth, with Tech 3's Bradley Smith a little further back in tenth.
