Márquez tops opening day at Indianapolis
16 August 2013 – Repsol Honda rider Marc Márquez made the perfect start to the Indianapolis Grand Prix on Friday, topping both free practice sessions. With a best time of 1:39.502, the Spaniard led team-mate Dani Pedrosa by 0.080 seconds, with Stefan Bradl third.
Factory Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo was best of the rest behind the front three Honda runners, with Tech 3's Cal Crutchlow in close company. Valentino Rossi followed in sixth, ahead of Álvaro Bautista and Bradley Smith who claimed seventh and eighth.
The works Ducatis of Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso rounded out the top ten, with Aspar's Aleix Espargaró again finishing as the top CRT runner in 11th position.
At Pramac, Ben Spies marked his return from injury in 13th position, having been unable to race since the second round of the season at the Circuit of The Americas.
