Márquez tops first Silverstone practice
30 August 2013 – Repsol Honda rider Marc Márquez set the pace in the opening free practice session for the British Grand Prix on Friday morning. The Spaniard's best time of 2:03.816 put him 0.219 seconds clear of Jorge Lorenzo, with home favourite Cal Crutchlow third.
With a view to extending his four-race run of victories, MotoGP rookie Márquez quickly demonstrated strong pace as the pit lane opened at Silverstone, the former Moto2 Champion ultimately usurping the Yamaha of Lorenzo in a drama-free session.
Behind the leading trio, Dani Pedrosa edged out Álvaro Bautista for fourth position, with Valentino Rossi in close company. Stefan Bradl was next up in seventh, while Nicky Hayden, Bradley Smith and Andrea Dovizioso rounded out the top ten runners.
Second practice at Silverstone gets underway at 2.05pm local time (GMT+1)
