Márquez tops opening Misano practice
13 September 2013 – Marc Márquez led Dani Pedrosa in a Repsol Honda one-two during first practice for the San Marino Grand Prix on Friday morning. The MotoGP rookie posted a time of 1:34.476 to outpace his fellow Spaniard by 0.222 seconds, with Jorge Lorenzo third.
Amid pleasant weather conditions, current title leader Márquez wasted little time in getting up to speed at the Misano venue, rising to the top of the timing screens in the early minutes before gradually lowering his benchmark as the session wore on.
Reigning World Champion Lorenzo, fresh from his dramatic Silverstone triumph, was best of the rest for the factory Yamaha team, almost half a second adrift of Márquez. Team-mate Valentino Rossi followed in fourth place, seven hundredths further back.
Gresini's Álvaro Bautista and LCR rider Stefan Bradl claimed fifth and sixth, edging out the works Ducati duo of Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso. Michele Pirro finished ninth on his Pramac machine, with Aleix Espargaró heading the CRT battle in 10th.
Tech 3 Yamaha pairing Cal Crutchlow and Bradley Smith wound up 11th and 13th.
Second practice at Misano gets underway at 2.05pm local time (GMT +2)
