Suzuki completes two day Mugello test
26 September 2013 – Suzuki rounded out its 2013 European test programme this week with a two-day test at Mugello.
In the wake of last week’s three-day session at Misano, riders Randy De Puniet and Nobuatsu Aoki focussed on finding improvements to the engine, which featured a redesigned cowling intended to provide for greater top-speed performance. Other evaluations of an altered chassis-design revealed that the revised bike offered better engine braking and traction control, leading to enhanced rear grip on corner-entry.
De Puniet recorded a best lap time of 1:49.260, which would have been good enough for the eighth fastest lap at this year’s Italian Grand Prix. Speaking after the test, the Frenchman expressed his desire to continue to work with the Japanese marque in the future.
"In these two long days we've worked a lot on the electronic-mapping in different situations," he explained. "We also understand that we need to work more on rear grip. We expected Mugello being a difficult track and from this test we gave a lot of information to the engineers, which they can now work on.
"I'm a little sad that this was the last test for this season, as I've enjoyed riding this bike and working with the Suzuki Factory Team," he admitted. "I hope I will have more opportunities to ride again in the future and to continue improving this bike."
Suzuki’s 2013 test programme is now due to continue back in Japan.
