Aspar confirms Honda and Hayden
17 October 2013 – Frontrunning CRT outfit Aspar has confirmed that it will use Honda's production racer next season, with former World Champion Nicky Hayden featuring in its rider line-up.
The team was set to continue with Aprilia bikes for the 2014 season, but CEO Jorge Martínez 'Aspar' announced a two-year deal with Honda at Phillip Island on Thursday.
Hayden, who joins Aspar after five seasons with Ducati, is at present Aspar's only signing for 2014. The team has this year run Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaró.
"It is great news for the Power Electronics Aspar Team to have the acquired services of Honda and a rider of the profile of Nicky Hayden," explained Aspar. "We are taking a huge step forward in terms of quality, prestige and image. We have grown a lot in a short space of time and we are all very excited about this new project with Honda.
He added: "It will be a big change for us after so many years working with Italian factories, but we have high hopes for this new project. We are up for the challenge and we will give maximum effort to making sure we continue achieving top results."
Aspar will race with the spec ECU system in 2014, meaning it will be labelled as an 'Open' team as opposed to a 'Factory' entry under the new classification system.
