Lorenzo flies to second pole in a row
26 October 2013 – Jorge Lorenzo took a dominant pole position as track action finally got underway at a wet Motegi circuit on Saturday afternoon. The Yamaha rider clocked a 1:53.471 in a single qualifying session to head the front row from Marc Márquez and Nicky Hayden.
With the weekend being heavily disrupted by poor weather, qualifying served as the first time the field had taken to the circuit. Race control therefore replaced the Q1 and Q2 schedule with a 75 minute session to provide as much track time as possible.
On an ever-improving track surface, Lorenzo was simply untouchable, delivering his final blow to outpace title leader Márquez by a mammoth 0.658 seconds. Hayden was a further four tenths back in third, doing just enough to keep Dani Pedrosa at bay.
Valentino Rosso will start fifth, ahead of Andrea Dovizioso who confirmed Ducati's strong wet weather pace. Álvaro Bautista wound up seventh despite a fall, while Stefan Bradl, Aleix Espargaró and Yonny Hernández rounded out the top ten.
Sunday's race at Motegi is scheduled to get underway at 2pm local time (GMT +9)
