Honda unveils RCV1000R for 2014
7 November 2013 – Honda has officially presented to the world its RCV1000R prototype machine, which will be sold to teams from the 2014 MotoGP campaign for use in the "Open" class.
HRC Executive Vice President, Shuhei Nakamoto and Project leader, Tomonori Sato were both on hand for the launc hof the bike, which took place in the Spanish city of Valencia prior to this weekend's season finale and subsequent post-race test.
The RCV1000R, which features Magneti Marelli hardware and software and a 24-litre fuel tank, is based on the current RC213V bike. It is powered by a 90º V4 producing over 175KW of power at 16,000rpm, utilising spring valves and a traditional gearbox.
Four riders will race on the RCV1000R next year; Nicky Hayden and an unnamed Aspar team-mate, plus Scott Redding (Gresini) and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB).
While Honda is selling machinery, rivals Yamaha will be leasing prototype engines.
