Broc Parkes confirmed at PBM
11 December 2013 – Broc Parkes will compete with Paul Bird Motorsport in the 2014 MotoGP World Championship, it has been announced.
The Aussie, who finished second in the World Supersport Championship in 2002 and 2007 and who has also competed in the World Superbike Championship, joins Michael Laverty at the Cumbrian-based outfit, the latter returning for a second stint in the premier prototype class. Both will compete on board the team’s PBM Aprilias.
“Firstly, I'd like to say a massive thanks to Paul Bird for the opportunity to work with his team once again; I'm really looking forward to it,” said Parkes, who was previously with the PBM Kawasaki team in 2009 in World Superbikes.
“This is the premier class and it's every rider's dream to race in MotoGP. I know this is going to be a tough season but I'm certainly up for the challenge.
"I can't wait to get started.”
Team owner Paul Bird meanwhile was delighted to be able to confirm that PBM will run in MotoGP in 2014 - something that wasn’t 100 per cent definite, even though the squad was on the provisional entry list published last month.
“We've done a lot of spade work in MotoGP over the past two seasons so the plan is to build on that and work with our partners. Michael and Broc are very capable of delivering," he added.
The PBM Aprilias are expected to run in the traditional British Racing Green livery and will now be officially unveiled at the London Motorcycle Show in mid-February.
