Espargaró remains on top in second practice
21 March 2014 – Aleix Espargaró maintained his authority over the field during second practice for the Qatar Grand Prix on Friday evening.
More than two tenths quicker than the effort he delivered in Thursday night's opening practice session, the Forward Racing rider's best time of 1:54.989 put him 0.331 seconds clear of Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati.
Álvaro Bautista followed for Gresini, slotting just ahead of Repsol Honda duo Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez.
Bradley Smith led Tech 3 Yamaha's charge in sixth, two positions ahead of rookie team-mate Pol Espargaró, who suffered a nasty, high speed fall at Turn 10 in the early stages of the session. LCR's Stefan Bradl split the pair.
Valentino Rossi was the leading works Yamaha in ninth position, narrowly outpacing Pramac's Andrea Ianonne. Jorge Lorenzo wound up 11th and remained visibly frustrated over his feeling with Bridgestone's 2014 tyres.
Ducati's Cal Crutchlow finished 13th, while Gresini's Scott Redding ended the session in 16th place.
Third practice at the Losail International Circuit begins at 8.55pm local time (GMT +3)
