Márquez scoops Breakthrough award
26 March 2014 – Repsol Honda rider Marc Márquez picked up the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday.
Márquez, who became the youngest ever MotoGP champion in his debut year in 2013, saw off golfers Justin Rose and Adam Scott, cyclist Nairo Quintana, pole vaulter Raphael Holzdeppe and the entire Afghanistan Cricket Team to take the gong. The Spaniard is the first bike star to claim the award. He succeeds tennis player Andy Murray.
“It's so special, being just 20 to be here. I can't explain how I feel. I’m so happy,” he said at the ceremony.
