Márquez on top as Austin weekend begins
11 April 2014 – Marc Márquez comfortably topped the timesheets during Friday's opening practice session for the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin.
The Repsol Honda rider, who claimed his maiden MotoGP victory at the venue 12 months ago, clocked a time of 2:04.704 during the 45-minute outing to lead Forward Racing's Aleix Espargaró by 0.887 seconds.
Márquez's team-mate, Dani Pedrosa, wound up third, ahead of Yamaha's Valentino Rossi and the leading Ducati of Andrea Dovizioso.
Tech 3 Yamaha rider Bradley Smith took sixth, just in front of fellow Briton Cal Crutchlow, whose Ducati suffered a technical problem.
Stefan Bradl (LCR), Andrea Iannone (Pramac) and Álvaro Bautista (Gresini) rounded out the top ten places.
