Determined Lorenzo thinking 'race by race'
15 May 2014 – Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo says he is approaching the remainder of the MotoGP season on a "race by race" basis, as the Spaniard attempts to cut the gap to reignite his challenge for a third championship crown.
Having recorded just one podium finish from the opening four races of the season, Lorenzo sits fifth in the standings and 65 points adrift of Repsol Honda's Marc Márquez, who remains unbeaten in 2014.
Ahead of this weekend's French Grand Prix at Le Mans, Lorenzo refused to get drawn into title talk.
"Right now I am just thinking race by race and not about the championship," Lorenzo commented.
"I think I will have a better pace at Le Mans, I have had some wins there and I like the circuit."
Lorenzo says he made significant progress with Bridgestone's 2014 rubber at the post-Jerez test.
"After the result in Jerez we could analyse the data during the test and we got some good information," he said. "We finished that test day happy with the result and we could figure out where the problem was during the race.
"We found that with the soft rear tyre we are much more comfortable than the hard one and therefore from now on we will be focused on this compound. We will try to get a more constant bike with the soft tyre."
