Márquez tops first practice session in Italy
30 May 2014 – MotoGP World Champion Marc Márquez continued his imperious start to the 2014 season by topping the first practice session ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.
Márquez set a time of 1:48.004 to finish the session 0.382s ahead of home favourite Valentino Rossi, with fellow Italian rider Andrea Iannone in third.
Andrea Dovizioso ensured that three Italians finished in the top four, while Jorge Lorenzo ended the session in fifth place for Yamaha.
Aleix Espargaró was sixth, ahead of LCR's Stefan Bradl and Ducati rider Cal Crutchlow.
Álvaro Bautista was ninth but ended his session early when he crashed at the San Donato corner. The other faller was Pol Espargaró, who damaged the front end of his Tech 3 machine but was able to return to the track later in the session. The Spaniard finished the session in 12th, behind Bradley Smith and Honda's Dani Pedrosa.
