Hayden undergoes surgery on wrist
4 June 2014 – Nicky Hayden underwent surgery on Tuesday in Italy in a bid to cure a right wrist problem that forced him to pull out of last weekend's MotoGP event at Mugello.
The 2006 MotoGP World Champion had struggled with the injury at the previous two events in France and Spain. However the discomfort proved too much at Mugello and the Drive M7 Aspar Team rider withdrew on the Saturday after doctors advised him not to continue.
The operation was performed by Dr. Riccardo Luchetti at 8.10am at the 'Casa di Cura Profesor Ernesto Montanari Spa' in Morciano di Romagna and took around an hour and a half.
"An arthroscopic cleaning procedure was carried out on his right wrist and some floating matter was removed. Nicky was also injected with an anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling and loosen the joint," read a statement put out by his team.
"Following a brief spell of rest... he will [now] rest and recover, with the hope of returning next week in time for the GP of Catalunya."
