Espargaró brothers fastest in first practice
26 June 2014 – Pol Espargaró set the standard during first free practice for the Dutch TT on Thursday morning, eclipsing brother Aleix with a late run.
The Tech 3 rider had a quiet start to the opening session of the weekend, but clocked a 1:34.530 in the dying moments to steal the top spot.
Aleix, on his Forward Racing machine, used a set of Soft tyres to set the second fastest time, 0.189s adrift.
Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo was the quickest of the factory runners in third, edging out Repsol Honda's Marc Márquez, who was the session's long-time leader after recovering from an early off-track excursion.
Bradley Smith ensured that both Tech 3 Yamahas finished inside the top five positions, with works Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi, Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso and the second Repsol Honda of Dani Pedrosa in close company.
The top ten places were rounded out by Gresini's Álvaro Bautista and LCR Honda rider Stefan Bradl.
Cal Crutchlow, who has endured a tough start to life at Ducati, finished 1.7 seconds off the pace in 13th.
Thursday's second practice session at Assen gets underway at 2.05pm local time (GMT +2)
