Rossi quickest in damp third practice
27 June 2014 – Valentino Rossi clocked the quickest time during Friday morning's third practice session for the Dutch TT, although a damp track surface prevented any improvements to the overall pre-qualifying order.
With infrequent spits of rain falling on the circuit, factory Yamaha rider Rossi gradually worked his way down to a best effort of 1:34.650, putting the Italian 0.262 seconds clear of Gresini's Álvaro Bautista.
Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso finished third, ahead of LCR's Stefan Bradl and Tech 3's Bradley Smith.
Repsol Honda team-mates Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa, Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo and Thursday practice pace-setters Pol and Aleix Espargaró all opted against posting times amid the challenging track conditions.
As a result of the poor weather, Q2 will consist of the top 10 riders from Thursday's running, with the remainder of the field battling it out in Q1, where the fastest two riders will also join the final grid-deciding shootout.
Friday's Qualifying 1 session at Assen gets underway at 2.10pm local time (GMT +2)
