Surgery on both arms for Crutchlow
16 July 2014 – Cal Crutchlow underwent successful surgery on both arms in Barcelona on Tuesday.
The factory Ducati rider was operated on by renowned surgeon Dr. Xavier Mir at the Universitario Quiron Dexeus Hospital, in a procedure aimed at relieving arm pump (compartment syndrome) in both of his forearms.
Having previously been operated on once one his left forearm and three times on the right, incisions were made on Crutchlow's right arm to release pressure on the muscle, while 'mesenchymal cells' have been implanted.
Mir explained that scans in May highlighted the need for surgery, but both parties opted to wait until the one month break after the Sachsenring round. The decision was taken to operate on the left arm on Tuesday.
Crutchlow spent Tuesday night in hospital and is expected to travel home on Wednesday.
