De Angelis to replace Edwards at Forward
11 August 2014 – Alex de Angelis will replace Colin Edwards at Forward Racing for the rest of the 2014 MotoGP season.
Edwards, who has raced in the top class since 2003, said over the Indianapolis Grand Prix weekend that he was likely to bring forward his retirement, and that he would only potentially race at Silverstone and Valencia.
Forward confirmed on Monday that Edwards would be stepping back from his full-time position, but said he would remain part of the team, assisting with bike development and possibly making some wild card appearances.
Edwards has made clear that he will skip this weekend's Czech Grand Prix, but did not rule out Silverstone.
"I'm not 100 per cent certain about how many races I will do until the end of the season but I'll be at Silverstone, whether I'll be racing or not. I have big support there and I cannot miss this appointment," said Edwards.
"I'm thinking about my future, the different possibilities. I'm happy. I look forward to the second part of my life."
Edwards finished 13th at Indianapolis, his final outing on home soil and what could be his last in MotoGP.
