Yamaha 'confident' of Silverstone victory
27 August 2014 – Yamaha Team Director Massimo Meregalli says he is "confident" that the Japanese manufacturer has what it takes to claim its first victory of the 2014 MotoGP campaign at the upcoming British Grand Prix.
Yamaha has enjoyed a positive return to action since the summer break, with both Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi reaching the podium at Indianapolis and Brno, Lorenzo only half a second off the win at the latter event.
"Silverstone is always a race we enjoy coming to. The reception from the British fans is fantastic," said Meregalli.
"I am confident we can get our first win especially after the results of the last two rounds. The track is very well suited to the M1 and we have won three of the last four GP races there, so our confidence is pretty high."
Lorenzo says Yamaha made solid gains with its current package during the race weekend and test at Brno.
"In Brno we found some good solutions that will give us at least a tenth in the next races," Lorenzo explained. "We must congratulate the team for their work in the last races and especially during the last one at Brno.
"I feel quite good and we are going up in the championship. We're happy and confident for the next race."
