Álex Márquez seals Moto2 promotion
1 September 2014 – Álex Márquez, the younger brother of reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc, will step up to the Moto2 class with the Mark VDS Racing Team next season, having impressed during his second full campaign in Moto3.
Álex, 18, has notched up two victories and a trio of second place finishes so far this term, leaving him second in the championship standings and just 13 points behind current leader Jack Miller with six rounds remaining.
He joins Mark VDS on a two-year deal and will partner Tito Rabat, who currently heads the Moto2 title race.
"I am so proud and excited to announce I am joining Marc VDS Racing Team in Moto2 for the next two years," said Álex. "It is very important for me because I am changing class with a fantastic team and a strong team-mate.
"I have been working hard to be here and I want to thank the Marc VDS Racing Team for their trust. But now it's time to focus on Moto3, we are in the most important part of the season and our mission is to fight for the title."
