Moto2 rider killed in practice incident
3 June 2016 – Moto2 rider Luis Salom has died following an incident in practice for the Barcelona round.
Salom, 24, crashed at Turn 12 in Friday's second practice session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, signalling a red flag, as two medical cars, two ambulances and a medical helicopter attended the scene.
Due to the severity of his condition, the Spaniard was transported by road to the Hospital General de Catalunya, where he underwent emergency surgery, but succumbed to his injuries at 16:55 local time.
Salom finished second and third in Moto3 in 2012 and 2013, before stepping up to the Moto2 class. He claimed three podiums in the second tier, the most recent in Qatar in 2016, riding for SAG.
