Formula 1 test at Hungaroring 2 August 2017
...we'll see you again in Belgium!
Thank you for joining us over the past two days...
Stay tuned to the website for a full report, results, news and photos
Vettel finishes at the top of the times, with his 1:17.124 on Super Softs, ahead of Norris, who posted a 1:17.385 on Ultra Softs
We will bring you the latest on the cause of that red flag, when it becomes clear
Chequered flag - that's an early end to proceedings
It appears to be Russell
Kubica now hits 140 laps - that's two race distances!
Norris, Kubica, Russell, Mazepin, Gasly, Ferrucci and Matsushita are all back out on track for some late running
Renault reports that debris on track caused that stoppage
Green! 15 minutes on the clock
All drivers are back in - we're not sure who/what caused that one
But now there's another red flag...
Raikkonen, Russell and Ghiotto head back out
We're green again!
Toro Rosso confirms that it sparked the red flag, but "doesn't know the cause yet"
Kvyat is the only driver on track
We have a red flag
Kvyat is up to sixth, a few tenths down on team-mate Sainz Jr.
So Norris, Raikkonen, Kubica, Kvyat and Mazepin have all improved their lap times in the last half an hour or so
Of course, there are different tyre compounds in play...
For reference, Alonso's Q3 time last weekend was a 1:17.549
Norris improves again on Ultra Softs - 1:17.385
Kvyat jumps from ninth to sixth, clocking a 1:19.166
We're close to another Ferrari 1-2...
Raikkonen posts a 1:17.842 on Super Softs
We are looking forward to his press session when he jumps out of the car and will, of course, bring you his comments...
Kubica is now up to 134 laps for the day - six away from two race distances
Kubica, like Norris, used Ultra Softs for that lap
Kubica is also back out and improving - it's a 1:18.572, which moves him up to fourth, above Sainz Jr.
He's around half a second away from Vettel's benchmark (Super Softs)
Norris, having switched back to Ultra Softs, improves to a 1:17.682
Russell improves by a tenth, but stays seventh, as Mazepin slots into eighth
Matsushita and Ferrucci are the next drivers to hit 100 laps
Norris posts a 1:17.900 on Super Softs, just 0.006s slower than he managed on Ultra Softs earlier today
Kubica is out on Ultra Softs but does not improve on his first lap
Matsushita and Sauber have been conducting some practice pit-stops
Norris has been joined by Kubica, Gasly and Matsushita
In case you missed it earlier, here's our account of Kubica's first laps in 2017-spec F1 machinery from trackside: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/356678/trackside-kubica-s-first-laps-in-the-rs17/
So that's an improvement of around half a second
He posts a 1:18.952, again on Super Softs
Kubica is back out and into the 1m18s!
Again, we do not know fuel loads or the run focus...
Kubica is back in the pits, so that was a short qualifying-style run
He's running the Super Soft tyre at the moment
Kubica improves by a couple of tenths to a 1:19.467
As you can see, Ghiotto has quietly worked his way over the 100-lap mark

Raikkonen takes the Ferrari out on track after a lengthy spell in the garage
But he now pits the Toro Rosso, leaving Matsushita and Mazepin as the only two drivers on the circuit
Kvyat has improved his time to slot ahead of Ferrucci
Kubica is back in the pits, with Renault reporting that there will be a little break, while mechanics "fiddle & fettle"
Ferrucci makes another small improvement, getting into the 1m20s
Kubica has hit the 100-lap milestone!
Matsushita just had a moment and missed the Turn 6/7 chicane
Mercedes will no doubt have made changes for today's running
He was pleased with his pace relative to Valtteri Bottas (testing for Pirelli) on Tuesday, though noted a minor seat issue: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/356651/russell-encouraged-by-margin-to-bottas/
Mercedes has sent Russell out for another run
Some movement in the pit lane and we now have Kubica, Ghiotto, Ferrucci, Matsushita and Mazepin on track

Kvyat also posts a new personal best - he's down to a mid 1m21s
Ferrucci has improved his time on Super Softs, but remains 10th
He will now switch his focus back to the DTM championship...
Auer said it was "difficult to describe" driving an F1 car after his initial runs on Tuesday, highlighting high cornering speeds and huge braking forces
Mazepin joins the action in the Force India, having taken over from Auer
Gasly and Ferrucci are the only drivers lapping at the moment
Kubica now pits, ending a 15-lap (timed) stint
He ended the morning on 74 laps and is already up to 90
Kubica has settled into a longer run on Softs - he started out in the 1m21s bracket, and is now in the 1m22s
Kvyat goes 11th, ahead of Matsushita, with his first time
Here is the Frenchman's latest column for us, talking about a busy phase splitting duties as Red Bull's reserve driver, racing in the Japan-based Super Formula and an appearance in Formula E: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/356166/pierre-gasly-s-gpu-column-a-busy-period/
Gasly is the next driver to appear, in the Red Bull RB13
Kubica makes his first appearance in this session, followed by Kvyat
He survived a spin en route to ninth this morning
Ghiotto is the first driver to head out on track
Nobody is in a rush to leave the pits this afternoon
Green light! We're back underway
He put together a particularly consistent run (several 1m21s) late morning
Kubica was the busiest driver in the morning session, completing 74 laps over 10 runs of varying lengths
Further driver changes this afternoon: Nikita Mazepin replaces Lucas Auer at Force India, while Daniil Kvyat replaces Carlos Sainz Jr. at Toro Rosso
He handed over to team-mate Raikkonen before the lunch break
We're around 10 minutes away from the afternoon session, which will run from 14:00-18:00 local time
Welcome back to live coverage of in-season testing at the Hungaroring!
We will be back for the afternoon session at 14:00 local time!
Our full morning report is now available to read: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/356679/vettel-quickest-as-kubica-returns-to-action/
Morning times/laps: VET, 1:17.124, 40 / NOR, 1:17.894, 57 / RAI, 1:18.237, 20 / SAI, 1:18.850, 68 / AUE, 1:19.242, 49 / RUS, 1:19.499, 36 / KUB, 1:19.681, 74 / GAS, 1:20.337, 60 / GHI, 1:20.414, 67 / FER, 1:21.235, 57 / MAT, 1:23.133, 45
But that marks the end of the morning session, which Vettel tops with a 1:17.124 (Super Softs), followed by Norris, who posted a 1:17.894 (Ultra Softs)
We will bring you the latest as and when we hear it
Remember, Vandoorne suffered a stoppage before lunch yesterday - we are not sure whether Norris ground to a halt or suffered an off
Norris/McLaren-Honda appear to be the cause
We have a red flag
Kubica's race distance has been achieved over 10 runs
Norris, meanwhile, gets down to a 1:17.894 (Ultra Softs)
Kubica hits a race distance just before the lunch break
Kubica has been running in the 1m21s bracket for several laps - impressive consistency
So that moves him up to second, just ahead of Raikkonen
Norris improves again, producing a 1:18.231 last time around
He's using the Soft compound tyre for this run
Raikkonen shaves a couple of tenths off his time - 1:18.237
Both drivers are out there on the Ultra Soft compound
Auer, meanwhile, improves to a 1:19.242
Norris makes another small improvement: 1:18.539
Want to know a little bit more about Kubica's first laps in the R.S.17? GPUpdate.net went trackside for the occasion: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/356678/trackside-kubica-s-first-laps-in-the-rs17/
Raikkonen shoots up to second, clocking a 1:18.462
Raikkonen heads out in the Ferrari, taking over from Vettel
Here's a moment we missed a little earlier - Matsushita going for a spin:
Norris is back out on Ultra Softs and improves to 1:18.564
Ferrari is currently making changes to its car; Vettel has completed his programme, with Raikkonen set to take over for the afternoon
Kubica has headed back out for his eighth run of the day so far
Remember, you can browse through the latest testing photos in our dedicated gallery: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-photos/14374/formula-1-test-at-hungaroring-2-august-2017/

Norris posts a 1:18.914 on his second push lap, marginally quicker
Vettel is still a chunk clear with his early time on Super Softs
Norris clocks a 1:18.934 on Ultra Softs, but stays second
Kubica is out there on the Super Soft rubber at the moment
Another lap, another improvement! He now posts a 1:19.681
Kubica also dips under the 1m20s mark - it's a 1:19.972
Auer breaks into the 1m19s and moves up to fourth
Around six seconds covering Vettel in P1 and Matsushita in P10, though the latter has completed only 12 laps
Kubica is lapping again, alongside Sainz Jr., Auer, Ferrucci and Matsushita
Of course, we do not know exact run programmes and finer details...
For reference, F2 racer and Renault tester Nicholas Latifi set a best time of 1:20.302 yesterday - Kubica is already half a tenth clear of that
Kubica completes another short run and he's up to 30 laps for the day, which is around half a race distance
Kubica finds some more time - 1:20.255
A wonderful sight...

Vettel makes another improvement - he posts a 1:17.124
He's P5, behind Vettel, Sainz Jr., Norris and Russell
Kubica gets down to a 1:20.327 with his latest lap
We will also be posting regular time/lap updates in text form
We have a small technical issue at the moment, impacting the live timing list, but rest assured our team is working on it
So that's a couple of tenths quicker than Leclerc managed during Tuesday's running (1:17.746)
Vettel improves to a 1:17.498 up front
Mercedes has now taken the halo off the W08, following Russell's initial runs with the device
Ghiotto spins at Turn 5 but recovers to continue on his way
Ghiotto has been the busiest driver, racking up 16 laps, with Kubica up to eight
Six drivers have posted times so far: Vettel (1:17.646), Ghiotto (1:20.773), Sainz Jr. (1:21.401), Ferrucci (1:21.512), Kubica (1:22.701) and Gasly (1:22.909)
Ferrucci's comments highlight the step between 2016/17 cars
We have moved on to the Turn 6/7 chicane, where Kubica is tentative, compared to Vettel, who is already attacking
He slots into fifth position, just behind Ferrucci
Kubica posts his first time - it's a 1:22.701
Vettel lowers the early benchmark to a 1:18:073
Ferrucci, who recently made the jump from GP3 to F2, admitted that he "struggled" to adapt to the VF-17 yesterday, suffering several spins
Ferrucci and Gasly are the next drivers to get times on the board
Kubica has pitted without posting a lap time
Remember, yesterday's benchmark was a 1:17.746 from Ferrari youngster Leclerc, posted on Softs
Vettel has posted a 1:19.328, with Sainz Jr. and Ghiotto also clocking times
Aero rakes on the sidepods are evidence of that
Renault has been eager to stress that this is also a "proper" test for the team, with Kubica working through several important checks
Understandably rather cautious as he gets up to speed
Kubica emerges for a second run
Norris and Sainz Jr. have broken the silence by heading back out
Let's see how it develops ahead of the 2018 season...
Prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix, Race Director Charlie Whiting expressed optimism that the "raw" halo looks would be improved: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/356339/whiting-raw-halo-looks-will-be-improved/
Regarding the halo on the Mercedes, we spotted a few tweaks over the 2016 version - some efforts have been made to blend it with the livery
You can follow our rolling test gallery here: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-photos/14374/formula-1-test-at-hungaroring-2-august-2017/
Here is another shot of Kubica leaving the garage:
Norris went very slowly on his initial run, with the car sounding a little bit rough - remember, Vandoorne had a stoppage yesterday
After a brief flurry of activity, we are all quiet on track
To be fair to him, there were plenty of photographers to avoid!
A few more teams in early action, with Auer sporting a particularly large aero rake on the left-hand side of the Force India
What an occasion...
Huge cheers from the main grandstand as he headed out of the pits
As a reminder, the day will be split into two sessions, from 09:00-13:00 and 14:00-18:00 local time
We are just under five minutes away from the green light

But Sauber stuck to the deal and will give him the chance
Matsushita is backed by Honda and doubt was cast over his test run after Sauber cancelled its planned deal with the manufacturer
Will we see him in Formula 1 next year? He's dominating F2 and feels that he is ready for the step...
He moved ahead with a late run on the Soft tyre, edging out McLaren-Honda's Stoffel Vandoorne, who used Ultra Softs
A reminder of the Day 1 results, as Ferrari youngster Charles Leclerc led the way for Ferrari: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/356648/leclerc-edges-vandoorne-on-first-test-day/
After yesterday's clear blue scorcher, it's a slightly overcast start, but still with healthy air and track temperatures - 26.8°C and 40°C
Finally, youngsters George Russell and Santino Ferrucci get second straight days in F1 machinery with Mercedes and Haas
Force India will also continue with that approach, as it fields Lucas Auer (AM) and Nikita Mazepin (PM)
Ferrari and Toro Rosso will run both of their race drivers, splitting the morning and afternoon sessions
Red Bull reserve driver Pierre Gasly, our driver columnist, will take over from Max Verstappen in the RB13
A couple of newcomers to mention today: F3's Lando Norris will make his F1 test debut with McLaren, while F2's Luca Ghiotto and Nobuharu Matsushita do the same at Williams and Sauber respectively
We wish him the best!
Fans are out in force and the man himself is ready:
It's a very special day here, as Robert Kubica enters an official F1 session for the first time since early 2011, before his serious rallying accident
Good morning and welcome to live coverage of the second and final in-season test day at the Hungaroring circuit
