Draco confirms Richelmi and Negrão

3 March 2011

The Draco Formula Renault 3.5 team has announced that Stéphane Richelmi (pictured) and André Negrão will make up its all-new line-up for the upcoming 2011 season, which kicks off at Spain’s MotorLand Aragón in mid-April.

After testing a selection of drivers over the winter break, Draco has now elected to run Monaco’s Richelmi – son of former World Rally Championship driver Jean-Pierre and set to celebrate his 21st birthday on 17 March – and 18-year-old Negrão, who hails from São Paulo.

Richelmi’s single-seater career began with 12th place overall in the 2006 Belgian Formula Renault 1.6 series before progressing to the top six of the prestigious Italian Formula 3 Championship in 2009, achieving his first race victory; last year, four wins and eight podium finishes yielded the runner-up spot. In December, he tested the 2008 Ferrari Formula 1 car in Italy.

Negrão made a quick motor racing impression by finishing third overall in the Portuguese Formula Renault 2.0 championship in 2008, notching up his maiden rostrum result in the process. In 2010, the Paulista scored two race wins and finished second in the Formula 3 Brazil Open series.
