Wickens signs with Carlin in FR 3.5

3 March 2011

The Carlin Formula Renault 3.5 squad has announced that Canadian racer Robert Wickens has joined its line-up for the upcoming campaign. The GP3 runner-up of last year therefore switches to another leading single-seater championship for the third consecutive season, having driven to second place overall the 2009 Formula 2 championship.

With the support of Russia’s Marussia Motors LLC, who have signed the 21-year-old as part of their Driver Development programme, Wickens will be driving alongside Frenchman and reigning British Formula 3 Champion Jean-Eric Vergne.

“To have Marussia behind me and helping my career is fantastic and I’m honoured to represent them and their brand,” he commented, having driven for British team Carlin in Formula Renault 3.5 for four races in 2007.

“The race drive in the World Series is an exciting part of my programme and I’m delighted to be back with the guys at Carlin – they are Champions and, together, the clear goal is to win this year’s Formula Renault 3.5 title.”
