Estonian Kevin Korjus has won the second Formula Renault 3.5 race of the season at MotorLand Aragón. The Estonian, who started second on the grid, was chased by Race 1 winner Alexander Rossi and Albert Costa as pole-sitter Cesar Ramos fell to fourth.

Tech 1’s Korjus was as surprised as delighted when returning to the paddock, having previously worried that no race wins would come his way this year. However, the 18-year-old led home Rossi – who continues to lead the championship – by 1.7 seconds.

As Ramos plummeted from first to third, a rapid start by Costa allowed the leading Spanish driver to challenge the leader in the opening stages, although the Epsilon Euskadi driver soon slipped down to the final rostrum step as he struggled with fading brakes.

Behind, Stephane Richelmi was caught out by the Turn 1 squeeze and found himself in the air, soon becoming the afternoon’s first of three retirements.

As Robert Wickens completed the top five, 2010 British Formula 3 Champion Jean-Eric Vergne came home seventh, with Oliver Webb the leading Briton in 17th; the Pons driver would have finished higher up but suffered a spin when challenging Nathanael Berthon in a multi-car duel for eighth place.

Rounds 3 and 4 will be staged at Spa-Francorchamps in a fortnight’s time
