Wickens seizes pole for opening race

World Series by Renault: Nurburgring 2011: Saturday qualifying 1 results

Robert Wickens will start Race 1 from pole position at the Nurburgring this afternoon, comfortably claiming the top spot in first qualifying. The Canadian was almost four tenths clear of nearest rival Alexander Rossi with his personal best effort of 1:44.782, the only man to set a time under the 1:45.000 barrier. Kevin Korjus claimed the final spot inside the top three, pipping Daniel Ricciardo by little more than a tenth.

2010 British F3 Champion and championship contender Jean-Eric Vergne had to make do with fifth on the grid for Race 1, just under two tenths ahead of César Ramos. ISR's Nathanael Berthon was next up in seventh place, while Mofaz Racing's Fairuz Fauzy comfotably claimed the final spot inside the top eight.

Nelson Panciatici put his KMP Racing machine ninth on the timing screens as the session came to a close, finishing the best part of two tenths ahead of André Negrão who made it up to tenth with his quickest attempt.
