Frenchman and 2010 British F3 Champion Jean-Eric Vernge will start from pole position in Saturday’s opening Formula Renault 3.5 race at the Hungaroring, topping the timesheets with a time of 1:33.642. The Carlin driver led Sergio Canamasas by little more than a tenth of a second, while Daniil Move completed the top three.
Following his strong practice day showing, Vergne continued to perform well en route to his second pole of the season. Brendon Hartley was best of the rest behind the top three, edging in front of Alexander Rossi by 36 thousandths of a second, with the latter in turn a mere 16 thousandths ahead of Formula 1 graduate Daniel Ricciardo.
Former A1GP Champion Adam Carroll delivered a strong result upon his racing return, placing his car seventh while P1 Motorsport's regular driver Walter Grubmüller gets back to full health. Nathanael Berthon, Nelson Panciatici and Jan Charouz rounded out the top ten runners.
