Arden partners Caterham for Formula Renault 3.5

15 February 2012

Arden and Caterham, respective outfits headed up by Formula 1 Team Principals Christian Horner and Tony Fernandes, are linking up for an assault of the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 championship. Both teams already compete in F1 feeder series GP2 and Arden also runs a GP3 operation.

The team, to be labeled Arden Caterham Motorsport, will be running with a driver line-up of American Alex Rossi and Lewis Williamson of Scotland, both already part of the two companies under their standalone driver development programmes.

“We are delighted to formally confirm our partnership with Arden,” says Alex Yoong, former F1 driver and Head of the Caterham Driver Development programme. “This is an exciting partnership that we are sure will produce many exciting results for everyone involved and marks the next step in the growth of Caterham Group in global motorsport.”

In F1, the aforementioned Horner heads up World Championship-winning squad Red Bull Racing, with Malaysian entrepreneur Fernandes having debuted with Lotus Racing (now Caterham) in 2010. The individual GP2 teams were known as Arden and AirAsia in 2011, although the latter is now running under Caterham branding. In GP3, MW Arden is a joint venture between Horner and Formula 1 race winner Mark Webber.
