Magnussen revels in 'special' title win
21 October 2013 – Kevin Magnussen sealed the Formula Renault 3.5 title in emphatic style at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, securing both pole positions and race victories on offer.
The 21-year-old Dane, who ultimately outscored fellow McLaren junior driver Stoffel Vandoorne by 60 points, paid tribute to the efforts of his DAMS team throughout the campaign, which yielded a total of five wins and a further eight podium finishes.
"It feels so special. Nothing compares to this," said a delighted Magnussen, who is the son of ex-Formula 1 driver Jan. "I had to finish the job off and we did it together, with the whole team. It's been a fantastic season and I love working with DAMS."
"It might look like it's all gone pretty smoothly but there have been ups and downs. It's been very tough but I've achieved what I set out to do. I can't wait for what lies ahead."
Magnussen was recently named as an option to join Jules Bianchi at Marussia, with the Frenchman also stepping up to Formula 1 after a term in Formula Renault 3.5.
