Rowland gets FR3.5 seat with Fortec
6 December 2013 – Oliver Rowland will contest Formula Renault 3.5 with Fortec next season, long-time backers the Racing Steps Foundation have confirmed.
The Briton, 21, finished runner-up in this year's Formula Renault 2.0 series, and will follow Robin Frijns and Stoffel Vandoorne by progressing to Renault's premier category with the British-based outfit.
Rowland recently tested for the team at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and MotorLand Aragón.
"Formula Renault 3.5 with a top team like Fortec is a fantastic opportunity for me," said Rowland. "I can't thank the Foundation enough for the continued backing they are providing me with.
"I think my style of driving is well-suited to the car and, together with Fortec, I know we have what it takes to challenge for wins and the title.
"Clearly it's not going to be easy but they won the title in 2012 with Robin Frijns in his rookie year and were runners-up this year with Stoffel Vandoorne, who was also a rookie, which shows it's perfectly possible."
Pierre Gasly, who beat Rowland to the Formula Renault 2.0 title, will also graduate to Formula Renault 3.5 in 2014, with the new Red Bull Junior Team member securing a drive at Arden Caterham.
