Nato beats Sainz Jr. in DAMS front row lockout
24 May 2014 – Norman Nato edged out DAMS team-mate and championship leader Carlos Sainz Jr. to take pole position for the sole Formula Renault 3.5 race in Monaco.
In a split qualifying session, mirroring GP2's approach, Frenchman Nato topped Group B by eclipsing ISR's Jazeman Jaafar.
Jaafar had looked set to claim the top spot with just a few minutes left on the clock, having surged four tenths clear of the field.
But Nato responded, first lapping one tenth slower than the Malaysian before unleashing a stunning lap just before the chequered flag dropped.
Jaafar and Tech 1's Marco Sørensen will share the second row, ahead of Fortec team-mates Oliver Rowland and Sergey Sirotkin.
Sunday's Formula Renault 3.5 race in Monaco gets underway at 10.10am local time (GMT +2)
