Chevrolet and Honda begin testing at Brands
10 March 2011 – Title-defending British Touring Car teams RML and Dynamics began their pre-season testing programmes on Wednesday, joining WSR and Airwaves at Brands Hatch. The day in the south of England featured mixed results for those gathered, for a variety of reasons.
RML will once again run the Chevrolet Cruze in the hands of Champion Jason Plato and Alex MacDowell this year, with the Dynamics-run Honda also retaining its driver pairing of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden.
However, the current constructors’ and teams’ title holders - again running under the Honda Racing Team guise - were only seen on-track with a single car and a brief run for 2005 and 2006 Champion Neal, carrying the new Neil Brown-prepared NGTC engine.
At WSR, newcomer Nick Foster continued to collect mileage although more experienced team-mate Rob Collard was frustrated with his car, which remained unbalanced for the duration of the day and will now need to be stripped down and set up again from scratch.
At Airwaves, who are running Ford Focuses for Mat Jackson and rookie Liam Griffin, ‘good progress’ was made by the Kent team which conducted a number of long runs in the afternoon.
