Bottas fastest on Day 2 at Barcelona
13 April 2011 – Valtterri Bottas led proceedings on day two of the final pre-season test at Barcelona on Wednesday, with the Finn setting a personal best time of 1:38.004 to beat Nigel Melker by margin of 0.188 seconds. Andrea Caldarelli was next up in third, while increasing track temperatures ensured that Bottas ended the afternoon on top.
As skies remained clear throughout the penultimate day of testing at Barcelona, drivers up and down the pit lane took advantage of the conditions to complete as much mileage as possible. Behind the top three runners who all completed over 70 laps of the Circuit de Catalunya, Nico Müller wound up fourth, with Britain’s Lewis Williamson in close company.
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs occupied sixth for Manor Racing, maintaining the position he held at the end of on-track action yesterday afternoon. Gabriel Chaves finished just behind the 21-year-old, ending his day as the fastest Team Addax driver. James Calado secured eighth place for Lotus ART, just over half a second behind pace-setting team-mate Bottas.
Michael Christensen completed 65 laps en route to ninth, while Wednesday pace-setter António Félix da Costa followed closely for Status Grand Prix. The Portuguese driver had to settle for the final place inside the top ten just ahead of Daniel Morad, despite shaving a tenth of a second off the time he set 24 hours ago.
Testing continues at the Circuit de Catalunya from 9am local time on Thursday (BST +1)
