Kobayashi takes Wurz's Toyota WEC seat
5 February 2016 – Kamui Kobayashi has taken Alexander Wurz's Toyota LMP1 seat for the 2016 World Endurance Championship season, after the Austrian's retirement from motorsport.
Japanese racer Kobayashi made 75 starts in Formula 1 with Toyota, Sauber and Caterham, and spent the 2015 campaign as Toyota's test and reserve driver in the WEC.
Kobayashi will race alongside Stéphane Sarrazin and Mike Conway.
"I'm really excited to be an LMP1 race driver and I would like to thank Toyota for this opportunity," said Kobayashi, who also appeared in the Japan-based Super Formula last year.
"Racing in LMP1 will be a new experience for me and I am looking forward to it a lot.
"There will be plenty to learn but I know my team-mates will support me and I am sure I can be competitive right from the start – now my focus is on preparing properly for the new season."
WEC's 2016 season kicks off at Silverstone on April 17.
