Bird doubles up in second New York race
16 July 2017 – DS Virgin Racing's Sam Bird completed the double in New York as he swept to victory in the second race of the weekend.
Bird, having taken his and the team's first win of the campaign in Saturday's encounter, started from pole, but lost the lead off the line to Felix Rosenqvist.
Bird, though, remained glued to the rear of Rosenqvist's car and soon moved back ahead, storming clear thereafter.
Rosenqvist and Mahindra team-mate Nick Heidfeld came home second and third, surviving a scare through the final corners after being caught by Pierre Gasly.
Gasly, standing in for absent title leader Sébastien Buemi at Renault e.dams, lost out during a Full Course Yellow Period but gained rapidly on the final lap.
Gasly caught Heidfeld through the last complex but an audacious attempt ended with the Frenchman swiping the wall.
Heidfeld held on to third, while Gasly crossed the line in fourth in his damaged car.
Lucas di Grassi took fifth, closing to within 10 points of Buemi, while Nicolas Prost claimed sixth position.
Tom Dillmann, Jean-Éric Vergne, Robin Frijns and Jérôme d'Ambrosio completed the top 10, which featured several frantic scraps and bumping in the final stages.
The final round of the Formula E season takes place in Montréal on July 29/30
