Jaguar outlines one-make FE support series
12 September 2017 – Jaguar has announced the launch of the world's first production battery electric vehicle race series, which will support Formula E from season five.
Using its I-PACE model, Jaguar will offer an 'Arrive and Drive' package for up to 20 drivers, including a different 'VIP' driver, across a 10-race championship, taking place on the same weekends and at the same city circuits as Formula E.
Jaguar's I-PACE eTROPHY intends to "give racers of the future a chance to showcase their talent, competing on the world stage in zero-emissions motorsport".
It will coincide with the launch of the aforementioned I-PACE, the manufacturer's five-seat battery electric sports car which will hit the road in 2018.
"Jaguar returned to racing in 2016 with the mission 'Race to Innovate'," commented Jaguar Racing Chairman Gerd Mäuser.
"With the launch of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY we have strengthened our commitment to battery electric vehicles, international motorsport and Formula E.
"As a British team, we are proud to announce today the launch of the world's first production battery electric vehicle championship.
"We've always said we want to prove our electrification technologies on the track – this is the proof.
"I am looking forward to seeing a full grid of Jaguar I-PACE racecars in late 2018, soon after the first Jaguar I-PACE hits the road in Europe.
"Ultimately this innovative series will enhance the technology in our future electric vehicles and benefit our customers."
Jaguar added that full technical specifications and costs for the I-PACE eTROPHY will be released in 2018.
