Alesi penalised, Lorandi inherits R2 pole
7 October 2017 – Trident's Giuliano Alesi has been handed a one-place penalty after he was deemed to have caused a collision with Jenzer Motorsport rival Alessio Lorandi at Jerez.
Alesi hounded Lorandi during the closing stages of the opening race of the weekend and made a move on the final lap.
The pair ran side-by-side along the back straight and made brief contact, before Alesi completed the overtake under braking for Dry Sac and captured eighth place.
However, stewards deemed that Alesi caused a collision in the move and have demoted him one position, to ninth, and in turn elevating Lorandi into eighth place.
As a result, Lorandi will start Sunday's reversed-grid second race from pole position.
