MP Motorsport to replace DAMS in GP3
16 October 2017 – MP Motorsport will join the GP3 Series in 2018, championship officials have announced, taking the entry currently held by DAMS.
DAMS joined GP3 last year, taking two wins courtesy of Jake Hughes, but has struggled in 2017, and sits at the foot of the six-team championship.
DAMS has therefore taken the decision to withdraw from GP3, instead focusing on its Formula E programme with Renault and Formula 2 operation, with MP Motorsport taking the entry.
"Moving into GP3 Series for 2018 is a very exciting development for MP Motorsport and perfectly complements our existing programmes," said MP Motorsport Team Manager Sander Dorsman.
"We are delighted we'll be on the grid next year."
"We're obviously taking over the entry left by DAMS and we would like to thank them for their great help and wish everyone there the very best for the future."
MP Motorsport will run in GP3 for the first time during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, which takes place following next month's finale.
The Dutch team has competed in Formula 2/GP2 since 2013.
