Tost: Line-up represents Toro Rosso culture
14 December 2011 – Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost has explained that the ‘culture’ of his outfit led to its complete driver line-up overhaul for the 2012 season, with youngsters Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne both claiming seats at the Faenza-based squad.
The Austrian says Toro Rosso has always focused on bringing new talent to the fore, with the decision coming at the expense of Jaime Alguersuari and Sébastien Buemi.
"However, one has to remember that when Scuderia Toro Rosso was established in 2005, it was done so with the intention of providing a first step into Formula 1 for the youngsters in the Red Bull Junior Driver programme. It is therefore part of the team's culture to change its driver line-up from time to time in order to achieve this goal."
Limited race driver roles remain in Formula 1 for the upcoming season, although the vacant seat at HRT could be a possible option for the departing Alguersuari.
