McLaren sidelined by electrical issues
28 January 2014 – McLaren has revealed that a sequence of electrical issues kept it out of action at Jerez on Tuesday.
While the other eight teams present were able to at least complete installation laps with their new challengers, the Woking-based outfit struggled with the preparation of the MP4-29 chassis and failed to leave the pit lane.
"Today was a challenging start to the MP4-29's test and development programme," read a statement issued by the team. "Along with other teams, we faced difficulties readying our new car for the first winter test of 2014.
"Despite firing up successfully at the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) last week, the car was predominantly affected by electrical issues during the day. The subsequent dismantling, inspection and re-installation of several major components ultimately meant we were unable to conduct any running today."
McLaren went on to explain that it is planning to re-install key systems on the MP4-29 overnight, with the squad hoping that Jenson Button will be able to begin the car's installation programme on Wednesday morning.
