Vettel 'speechless' after first Ferrari win
29 March 2015 – Sebastian Vettel said claiming his first victory for Ferrari during Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix initially left him lost for words.
Vettel completed a two-stop plan after an early Safety Car to overcome Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, who stopped three times.
It was Vettel's fourth victory at Sepang, after wins in 2010, 2011, 2013, moving him ahead of Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso.
"It's been a while since I've been up on the top step, and it's my first time with Ferrari. I'm speechless!" said Vettel, who last won in Brazil in 2013.
"Obviously we've had a big change over the winter and the welcome the team gave me is fantastic. I've only done two races but it's really a great atmosphere.
"I'm proud of today. We beat them [Mercedes] fair and square. It's a great achievement. We have a great car. So plenty of positives.
"Today is a very, very special day and will always remain a part of me."
Vettel says he is now much happier behind the wheel after a troubled final year at Red Bull.
"Last year was not a good year for me. I think we had a great car but I was just struggling to extract the performance," he went on to explain.
"This year's car seems to suit me very well."
Vettel hopes Ferrari's early victory will lead to a sustained championship challenge, but he remains wary of the raw pace Mercedes holds.
"That's why I signed up. That's our goal, that's the mission, to bring the World Championship back to Maranello," he added.
"We know that [Mercedes] are incredibly strong and difficult to beat, but today we did an excellent job, and that's what we have to keep doing."
