Sauber: Fourth position merely an 'illusion'
15 April 2015 – Peter Sauber, owner of his eponymous outfit, says that the squad cannot expect to maintain its fourth position in the Constructors' championship, though remains encouraged by its strong start to the 2015 season.
Sauber placed 10th in last year's championship and failed to collect a solitary point, but finished fifth and eighth with Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson in Australia.
Having left Malaysia empty-handed, both drivers returned to the points in China, leaving the team in fourth place in the standings with 19 points.
"It's fantastic, and [we're] doing just fine," Sauber told Blick. "We're back. Shanghai shows that the result of Australia was not a fluke.
"[However] it is an illusion to think that we can keep this place. But even a sixth place finish would be terrific and extremely important for our future."
Sauber believes that his squad has made progress on several fronts, including in its driver line-up, claiming that last year's pairing - Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutiérrez - were not as motivated.
"It is the Ferrari engine in the first place [which has improved], but there are other bright spots, he said.
"The team has developed and improved in the strategy. I will not say that the drivers last year were worse, but they were not terribly motivated. That has now changed. "
"Felipe we had on our radar for the last three or four years. We were always confident that he has a lot of potential, and Marcus has also pleased me very much."
