Honda investigating Alonso engine issue
25 September 2015 – Honda says it is still investigating a power unit issue which affected Fernando Alonso's running during practice for the Japanese Grand Prix.
McLaren mechanics had to change Alonso's ICE [Internal Combustion Engine] when a problem was detected following first practice at Suzuka, restricting his running during the early stages of the second session.
Honda believes that the issue was fuel-related, but is conducting further investigations in order confirm the problem.
Alonso and team-mate Jenson Button were both forced out of the Singapore Grand Prix due to gearbox related problems and McLaren trialled tweaks during practice in a bid to solve the issue.
"We ran some reliability tests in order to try to understand the problems we experienced in Singapore," explained Alonso.
"Now those checks are done, we'll maximise our efforts ahead of final practice tomorrow – that'll be the only opportunity we'll have before qualifying to push hard on a dry track."
